# Configure ION Intelligence

> Accept the AI Terms of Service, opt your organization in to ION Intelligence, and choose the model it uses.

ION Intelligence is off until an admin turns it on. The setting is org-wide, so while it is off
nobody in the organization can reach an ION Intelligence surface, admins included.

Turning it on takes two things: an admin accepts the **AI Terms of Service** on behalf of the
organization, and the switch is set. ION serves the terms from the backend, so the text an admin
reads and the version recorded against their acceptance cannot drift apart.

## Turn on ION Intelligence

1. In ION, go to **Settings > Organization > ION Intelligence**.
2. Under **Availability**, turn on **Enable ION Intelligence**. The **AI Terms of Service** dialog
opens with the terms in force for your region.
3. Read the terms, then select **I have read these terms and accept them on behalf of my
   organization.**
4. Click **Accept and enable**. ION records the acceptance and turns ION Intelligence on in one
step. **Cancel** closes the dialog and leaves the switch off.

Only an admin can change the setting. Everyone else sees **Only an admin can change this.** in
place of the help text.

Once consent is recorded, the section reads **AI Terms of Service accepted on `<date>`.** beneath
the switch.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Consent covers one activation. Turning ION Intelligence off ends the acceptance that authorized
> it, so turning it back on opens the terms again. Publishing a new version of the terms has the
> same effect. The **AI Terms of Service accepted on** line is withheld whenever a fresh acceptance
> is due, so it never claims consent that no longer stands.

Turning ION Intelligence **off** is never gated on consent, so an admin can always withdraw. Every
acceptance is kept as an append-only record of who accepted, when, and exactly which text they were
shown.

## Choose the model

An admin picks the model ION Intelligence uses for everyone in the organization. The **Model**
section appears once ION Intelligence is on.

1. In ION, go to **Settings > Organization > ION Intelligence**.
2. Under **Model**, pick a model from the list. The list shows the models available to your
organization, and marks the default **(Default)**.
3. Click **Save**, then click **Switch model** to confirm.

Every chat in the organization uses the new model from its next message on. Only an admin can
change the model.

If the model your organization picked is no longer available, ION Intelligence uses the default.

## What the setting governs

> [!WARNING]
>
> Turning it off disables ION Intelligence immediately for all users in your organization. It does
> not affect the ION MCP connector or the ION API. Data a user can reach with their own
> credentials remains reachable through those, including by AI tools they connect themselves.

The help text beside the switch changes with the switch's position: it
reads **ION Intelligence is off until you turn it on** while off, and **ION Intelligence is on, and
available to everyone in this organization** while on.

## When the switch won't turn on

If ION Intelligence is not available to your organization, the **Availability** section reads **ION
Intelligence is not available for this organization. Contact your First Resonance representative to
enable it.** in place of the switch.

If ION cannot check whether the terms need accepting, the switch is held off and the section reads
**Couldn't check whether the AI Terms of Service need to be accepted, so ION Intelligence can't be
turned on right now.** with a **Try again** control beside it. Only the enable direction is held,
so an admin can still turn ION Intelligence off.
