# Overview

> How ION notifies you about events on the objects you follow, in-app and by email, and how to control what you receive.

ION notifies you when something happens on an object you follow: a new comment, an `@`-mention, a status change, an approval or sign-off request, or an assignment. Every notification appears in your in-app inbox, and you also receive it by email if you [enable email notifications](/automate-with-ion/notifications/enable-email-notifications).

  To push notifications to external systems such as Slack or an ERP, use [Webhooks](/api-reference/guides/webhooks) to deliver ION events outside the app.
