# Place a run step on hold

> Put a run step on hold and comment the reason so others can see why work is paused.

Place a run step on **Hold** to pause work on it, and add a comment so anyone looking at the run step can see why.

1. Navigate to the target run step within the run.

2. Open the run step's **More actions** menu and choose **Put Step on Hold**.

3. Add a comment describing the reason for the hold, for example, "Step placed on hold due to lack of part availability."

The comment is attached to the run step and visible in the run step sidebar, so others can understand the context of the hold.
