# Automate inventory movement

> How ION updates inventory locations automatically as you kit, install parts, and run steps.

ION moves inventory automatically across kitting, installation, and runs.

## Kitting

* When you kit inventory, if the kit's **Current Location** is set, the kitted inventory moves to that location.
* When you move the kit's **Current Location**, the kitted inventory moves with it.
* When a kit's status changes to **Delivered**, its **Current Location** updates to the **Delivery Location**, so all kitted inventory moves to the delivery location.

## Installation

* When you install inventory, it moves to the assembly's location.
* When you move the assembly, all installed inventory moves with it, through the full depth of the aBOM.

## Runs

* When you start a run step, the WIP assembly moves to the run step's location. Any inventory installed on the assembly moves with it.

The run-step move is on by default. To keep inventory where it is when a step starts, turn on **Disable auto location update on run start**. See [Disable auto location update](/administration/supply-chain-settings/disable-auto-location-update).
