# Run incoming inspections

> Inspect incoming parts at the dock with inspection runs that ION creates automatically on receipt.

Incoming inspection runs are created on the receipt. For how they fit the receiving flow, see [Overview](/manage-supply-chain/receiving/overview).

## Require an inspection on receipt

You set whether a part needs an inspection on its part-procedure relationship. Mark the inspection run as **required**, and approve the relationship. To link a procedure to a part and set this, see [Part-procedure relationship](/build-hardware/procedures/part-procedure-relationship).

## Complete an inspection at receiving

1. Receive the part. ION creates an inspection run for the received part.
2. Run the inspection steps and capture results.
3. Complete the run. The inventory becomes **Available**, and the inspection results stay on the inventory record for traceability.

<Tip>
  Require inspection on critical parts so a defect is caught at the dock rather
  than mid-run, where it can halt a line.
</Tip>
