# Resolve an issue

> Move an issue through its states to resolution, get the required approvals, and reopen it if more work is needed.

Resolving an issue moves it from **Pending** through to **Resolved**. For how the states, dispositions, and approval gates work, see the [Issues overview](/track-quality/issues/overview).

1. Set a disposition on the issue.
2. Click **Move to In Progress**. If the disposition type requires approvers, they sign off first.
3. Do the work the disposition calls for, then click **Ready for Review**.
4. The closure roles approve in the **Reviews** view.
5. The issue moves to **Resolved**.

If the issue was created with a **Resolve by** run step, that run step can't be completed until the issue resolves.

## Reopen a resolved issue

To reopen a resolved issue and return it to **In Progress**, click **Reopen Issue**.
