A work center is a location whose Type is set to Workcenter. Because there is no separate work-center record, you set one up by creating or editing a location. See the Locations and work centers overview for how work centers fit the location model.

Designate a work center

  1. In the Production section of the sidebar, click Factory.
  2. Create a new location with Create Location, or open an existing one.
  3. Set Type to Workcenter, then save. (On a new location, click Create Location; on an existing one, the change saves automatically.)
Give work centers names that distinguish them from broad areas. “Final Assembly” is an area, while “Final Assembly Cell A” is a work center. Conflating the two muddles scheduling.

Run work at a work center

Once a location is a work center, operators can execute against it:
  • From the work center’s detail page, click Go to Execution to open its run-step queue.
  • From the run workspace, use the Workcenter shortcut to open a work center’s queue. The picker groups work centers under My Workcenter, Recent, and All Workcenters.
The queue buckets the work center’s run steps into Overdue, Now, Next, and Blocked. For how operators work this queue, see Run steps at a work center.
