You manage locations from the Factory area: in the Production section of the sidebar, click Factory. The Factory page lists your locations as an expandable tree, with root locations at the top.

Create a location

  1. On the Factory page, click Create Location.
  2. Enter a Name (required). Optionally fill in Description, Address, Image, Geolocation Latitude, and Geolocation Longitude.
  3. Choose a Type: Warehouse, Rack, Shelf, Tote, or Workcenter.
  4. Optionally pick a Supervisor and a Parent Location.
  5. Set Inventory Available to control whether inventory can be stored here, and Exclude from Inventory Merge to keep this location’s inventory from auto-merging.
  6. Click Create Location.
ION opens the new location’s detail page.

Organize locations into a hierarchy

Set a location’s place in the tree with the Parent Location field, either when you create it or later from its detail page. To add a child under an existing location, open that location and use the Create Location button in its Sub Locations card. The new location’s parent is filled in for you. On the Factory page, expand a row to see its children.
Names that sort cleanly hold up as the factory grows. Use sortable names such as A1-01 through A1-99 so the kit picklist, which relies on sort order, produces a sensible pick path. Match the hierarchy to the building (warehouse, zone, rack, shelf, bin), and reserve recurring special names once, such as In-transit, Receiving dock, Quarantine, and Scrap.

Edit a location

Open a location from the Factory page to reach its detail page. Fields in the Location Information card are editable in place and save automatically as you change them. You can update the name, description, address, image, geolocation, type, supervisor, parent, and the inventory toggles. If your org has defined location custom attributes, their values are editable at the bottom of the Location Information card. To define which custom attributes exist, see Custom attributes. To print barcode labels for one or more locations, select them on the Factory page and click Print Barcodes. For label setup, see Print a label.

Archive or delete a location

On a location’s detail page, open the Location actions menu (the menu):
  • Archive Location hides the location from active use without removing its history. An archived location shows an Archived badge; use Unarchive Location to restore it.
  • Delete Location removes the location permanently. Deletion requires the DeleteLocation permission and can’t be undone. You can’t delete a location that’s set as your organization’s default bill-to or ship-to in the purchase order settings.
