Server printing connects ION to your printers through an online service called PrintNode. PrintNode keeps printer configuration on a central server, so you add printers or users without changing the workstations. Setup has four parts: create a PrintNode account, install the PrintNode client, set up your printers, and enter the API key in ION. You set up the PrintNode client once, on the computer that manages the printers. You can also install the client on several computers to manage different parts of your printer fleet.
Contact support for details on activating the server printing option. You don’t have access to this part of the setup until the First Resonance team activates it for you.
The integration available through the ION Marketplace is intended for non-ITAR use only. ITAR-regulated customers may use this integration solely upon acknowledging that no ITAR-controlled data will be transmitted, stored, or printed, including on barcode labels. First Resonance assumes no responsibility for any unauthorized inclusion or handling of ITAR-controlled information.

Create a PrintNode account

  1. Sign up at PrintNode.
  2. Start with a one-month free trial. A payment plan is available once you add your card.

Install the PrintNode client

  1. Download and install the client on the machine that manages the printers, following PrintNode’s installation guide for Windows or Mac.
  2. Open the client and check the printers tab for your printers.

Set up printers

Set the printers up on the computer that runs the PrintNode client. To find a printer’s IP address, hold the feed and cancel buttons on the printer for two seconds and read the printout.

Configure ION

  1. Sign in to PrintNode and copy your API key from your API keys page.
  2. In ION, go to Settings > Organization > Barcode Labels.
  3. Turn on Use print server.
  4. Enter your PrintNode API key in Print server API key.
Server-based printing now applies everywhere in ION that prints a label.
