When part interchangeability is on, you can kit or install any revision of a part wherever the aBOM specifies a particular revision.
Use this functionality when your organization enforces that part numbers have the same form, fit, and function, and uses different part numbers when they do not.

Enable part interchangeability

  1. In ION, go to Settings > Supply Chain > Parts.
  2. In the Part Interchangeability section, turn on Allow any part revision to be used.

How it behaves

Serial numbers follow the same logic. With interchangeability off, a serial can be reused on a different revision of the same part number, so a unit that moves from one revision to the next keeps its serial. With interchangeability on, revisions count as one part, so the serial has to be unique across every revision of that part number. For more information, see Serial and lot tracking.
