A run can normally install any eligible inventory, whether or not it was kitted for that run. Turn this setting on when the kit is meant to be the authority on what goes into a build, so stock gathered for one run cannot be consumed by another.

Restrict installs to the assigned kit

  1. In ION, go to Settings > Supply Chain > Part Kits.
  2. Turn on Restrict installs to the kit assigned to the run.
The setting saves as you change it, and applies to every run in the organization.

What it enforces

While the setting is on, inventory kitted to another run cannot be installed. An operator working a run sees only the inventory that run’s kit holds. Kits release their inventory when they are completed or canceled, so stock held by a kit is not stranded: once the kit is done with it, the inventory is available to other runs again.
The restriction is about which kit the inventory belongs to, not whether it is kitted at all. Leave the setting off if your operators routinely install stock that was never gathered into a kit.
